How GELPS Scoring Works: Understanding Your Results

Beyond a Simple Number

GELPS scores range from 10 to 100, providing a comprehensive picture of your English proficiency. But what does your score actually mean?

Your overall score reflects your ability across all four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In addition, you receive four integrated subscores:

  • Literacy: Reading and writing abilities
  • Conversation: Listening and speaking abilities
  • Comprehension: Reading and listening abilities
  • Production: Speaking and writing abilities

Each subscore helps institutions understand your specific strengths and areas for improvement, giving a more nuanced view of your language abilities.

Score Alignment

GELPS scores are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), making it easy to compare with other proficiency benchmarks. A score of 70 corresponds to a B2 level — the ability to interact with fluency and spontaneity.
